About Your Surgery At miVIP Miami Surgery Center

We are Here for You

At miVIP Miami Surgery Center, we understand that having surgery can be stressful. Since staying physically and mentally healthy leading up to a procedure is so important, we strive to make the experience as convenient and comfortable as possible for our patients. When you have surgery at miVIP, we are with you every step of the way. Feel free to use these helpful tips and reminders to help you get ready for your procedure and guide your recovery.

Leading Up to Your Surgery

Being prepared for your procedure is an important part to ensuring the success of your bariatric surgery. To help ensure that you get all of your concerns addressed, it may be a good idea to make a list of your questions to ask your physician or our medical staff at your pre-operative appointment. Leading up to the day of your surgery, it is also important that you:

  • Arrange for a friend or family member to drive you to and pick you up from miVIP on the day of your surgery.
  • Quit smoking, if you are a smoker. It is best if you quit smoking a month or more before your surgery.
  • Follow any pre-operative medication instructions that your surgeon gives you.
  • Avoid consuming alcohol for 48 hours prior to your procedure.
  • If you are prescribed post-operative medications, it is a good idea to pick them up prior to your procedure so that you have them ready immediately afterward.
  • Pick up any supplies that you will need for your recovery, such as gauze or bandages.
  • Pack your bag with any personal items and paperwork that you may need the night before your surgery.
  • If you become ill prior to your surgery, it is important to inform your surgeon.

The Day of Your Surgery

Use these tips as a checklist on the day of your surgery to help reduce stress and ensure you have everything that you will need so you can focus on your recovery.

  • Bring your personal identification, such as a driver’s license, and your insurance card with you.
  • Bring any documents for medical powers of attorney, if you have them.
  • If you wear glass or contacts, be sure to bring a container or case to put them in during your procedure.
  • Bring your educational materials, which you are given at your pre-operative appointments.
  • You will want to be comfortable so it is a good idea to wear loose fitting clothing.
  • Remove any jewelry that you wear.
  • Review the timeframe and schedule for your surgery with the person who will be driving you to and from the surgery center.
  • Plan to arrive early.

After Your Surgery at miVIP

It is imperative that you call 911 right away if after your bariatric surgery, including a gastric banding surgery, you experience extreme pain in your abdomen, shortness of breath or chest pain. For any non-emergency questions, you can call miVIP and a member of our medical staff will address your concerns and advise you on how to proceed. It is also important that you:

  • Follow the instructions you are given by the medical staff or your surgeon for after your discharge, including any diet restrictions or guidelines.
  • Avoid lifting heavy objects.
  • Do not rush your recovery, ease into returning to your everyday activities.
